What kind of fitness is required to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the type of martial art where you can go at your own pace. It can be a considerable work out if you push yourself or a light workout if you slow the pace and focus on technique. Our advice to beginners however is to start slowly and develop your conditioning over time.

What is the typical structure of a class?
Please see the Training Schedule page for a detailed breakdown of each of the training sessions.

How much strength is required for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu itself was developed specifically for a smaller person to counter a larger, stronger opponent through use of body leverage and technique. It’s a great art for those who are not physically very large or naturally strong.

What kind of clothing should I wear to my first training session?
Please wear clothing suitable for heavy exercise, such as board shorts and a t-shirt. Docklands Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an official supplier of quality Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brands such as Koral, Fuji and Vulkan – just let us know if there’s any gear you need and we’ll be happy to help.

What are your training rates?
Training fees at Docklands Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are the lowest in Melbourne.  Please contact us to find out more. However we do encourage everyone to trial a free session first to have a go at Brazilan Jiu Jitsu for yourself.
